Hi everyone!
A monthly updated blog with quality content? Never heard of it. Seriously.
You're waiting for me to have my typical "school work as an excuse to not learn Korean".
Which is exactly what I'm going to do lol. Except, this time I'm going to blame my laziness to pick up a textbook as an excuse to learn Korean. I'm also going to blame the "ViSuAl LeArNer" in me, because the only way I did anything to do with learning this month was watching shows lol.
Tenth grade is not easy and I can't even imagine what the next two years have in store for me. Hopefully I can include fluency in Korean on my resume when submitting it to universities in some time.
So my really nice sister managed to get Netflix set up for me, and even though Qatar has selected certain shows and movies to be available here, I was suprisingly not let down.
There are so many different genres in Korean shows and movies, I am in love. Literally. I can finally see why everyone is so hyped up over Netflix.
Anyway, here are some things in my to-watch or currently watching list.
Obviously they're all Korean or related lol why am I like this.

There is a lot of variety as well; there's romance, horror, drama and reality tv. I've been jumping from category to category and I've really loved comedy so far, because I finally understand some of the puns and jokes that are made.

My favorite comedy right now is called The Sound of Your Heart. It revolves around Cho Seok, a middle aged and not so well off web toon artist who lives with his parents and older brother who is somewhat successful. Episodes usually focus on different embarrassing encounters of his life or family. The lead actor is well known for his roles in other iconic comedy movies so I would definitely recommend this if you are into funny stuff! But I must warn you, there are parts where I had to stop watching and cringe because I felt second hand embarrassment for quite a bit of people.
Fun fact! Miss Bruski caught me watching this in class lol I didn't lie I promise this was for my blog.
I give this show a 3.4 out of 5!

Another movie that I really loved is Train to Busan. I'll admit, it scared the living daylights out of me, but I'd probably watch it again. It's about a divorced father who is taking his daughter to his ex-wife who is in Busan, by train, only to find out that a zombie apocalypse has started mid-journey. This movie made me cry a lot, because me+bloody deaths+ families being separated= not a good combination. Also the lead actor is one of my favorites, and also appears in another of my recommendations below. Personally, a movie must be pretty darn moving if it makes me, a person who has a fear of zombies, want to watch it again. I did have nightmares but if I can get over it, so can you lol.
I give this movie a 4.5 out of 5!

One of the shows that I am currently watching is called Goblin. It is about a girl who has grown up with the ability of seeing ghosts and how her life changes when she finds out she is the bride of the Goblin. After meeting him, it takes a while for both of them to adjust to each other and finally fall in love. I really love the show so far because it is a mix of comedy and romance and the lead, Gong Yoo is really boyfriend material even though he's like 22 years older than me lol. This show is also pretty helpful because the main female lead always talks in a formal manner and it helps me understand the system a lot more.
I give this show a 4.2/5!

So how I got to watching this is kind of funny to be honest. On my instagram search page, a badly animated part of this movie turned up and I watched it and wow I actually laughed really hard. (but then again I laugh at literally anything). After I viewed the clip I realized I had spoilt it for myself because that was the ending of the movie. But at least I got a good laugh out of it right? I'll put the clip under the summary incase you want to do the same as I did.
Fun fact! this was South Korea's highest grossing movie in 2010!
This movie came under the category of action and drama, and it was really well made. The plot of this story is about a lonely pawnshop owner with a mafia related past goes through hell and back to rescue the child who lives next door to him when she gets kidnapped due to her mother's inability to pay back the people in a dangerous drug and organ trafficking cartel. I'm warning you right now, theres quite a lot of gore and blood, and also some parts of nudity. Not for the weak hearted (but I mean I watched it, so I can't really stop you there) as a lot of tears will be shed.
I'm actually risking being sued because i uploaded this video on Vimeo for you guys to see so pls see it don't make me go to jail for no cause!! uwu thx
I give this movie a 4/5!
