안녕하세요!
Hope everyone has been on their toes keeping their new year's resolution just like I have! Mine was to devote a daily amount of time to study Korean so I could be at a decent level at the end of this one year journey. Currently in sophomore year, I already do not have time to study a lot after coming back from school because I play badminton. I also blame the absurd number of naps my body needs to function properly.
Semester 1 results for me were disappointing, so I promised myself to actually study truthfully. By truthfully I mean putting my 100% focus on reviewing for exams in March and not getting distracted by videos like Youngjae laughing compilations or this, because I think everyone knows that those videos are like Pringles; finishing one is just never enough. So now you know how I waste my time instead of doing something productive.
And because I decided to put effort into studying, I didn't have a lot of time to watch shows, but I did listen to a lot of new music. Check out the list at the bottom for my monthly recommendations!
Moving on, I recently realized that this blog is to show my progress in Korean but I never really shared my resources? So here is a list of all the things I like to use to solidify my understandings; (not a particular order though)
Naver is basically google, but modified for Korean people. It's actually really cool. It has basically anything a search engine could ask for. There are sections for news, the music industry, new video games, clothing, trends and movies. There is also a section for mom and kids, web toons, tv shows and traveling. What I also really like is that there is a kids version for this web portal. This webpage has so many resources for children who could be toddlers, to middle schoolers. And due to the audience being so young, they use extremely simplified Korean in their audiobooks, shows and kids' songs. I have to admit some of them are super catchy like Baby Shark or Dinosaur ABC

I'm a super strong visual learner, and quizzes/flashcards help me remember vocabulary a lot easier. I use this website after covering a new lesson on nouns and adjectives! It has numerous quizzes on so many different topics such as colors, numbers, days of the week, clothes, animals, fruits and so much more! I usually have to go back to the Food quiz because I tend to forget it a lot. Don't forget, you will need to have a Korean Font Flash downloaded if you want to get the complete experience!

These two links are available in the form of apps as well as websites, which is super convenient because as long as I have wifi, I can learn on the go. Another thing I love about Duolingo is that you can save one lesson offline at a time so you can continue learning even without any internet. Memrise unfortunately does not offer the feature but has a way more personal feeling to it. This is because to explain the pronunciation behind some words, it uses voice recordings of famous idols saying trade mark phrases. Although if you want a better experience with either of these apps you will need to buy a subscription, they do offer a decent amount of features with the free version too.

Youtube Channels I love:

This channel is run by a Korean American who lives in Korea. He makes videos for a living and used to teach English. He made a video, that at first I accidentally clicked on, but realized that he is pretty chill. He makes vlogs in mostly English and has a lot of reaction posts.
check out these videos by him:

This channel is run by a group of Korean men who bring in their friends to make videos. When I watched them the first time, I was hooked onto their content. They are incredibly funny and also try their best to speak English for their international fans. They also post a lot of challenge videos and reaction videos. They also use subtitles so it makes it very easy to understand what they say in Korean!

This channel is one of my favorites. I first stumbled upon them when they popped up in my recommended lists. The first video I watched by them was the trio trying Indian snacks for the first time. I'd always thought that Korean people could handle food from my country but I guess everyone has different spice tolerances.

TV Shows:
As stated before, I didn't have a lot of time to watch shows, but I sometimes watch short clips of Korean variety shows that feature KPOP Idols. One of my favorites is Weekly Idol. This is a very entertaining show as they make their guests dance to their own music sped up, re-enact iconic movie scenes and a lot more. I started liking this show after watching GOT7's feature in 2016.
PS- This post was slightly more dead than usual, and I apologize because I'm typing this as I'm sick.
Thanks for reading!
